Rio in Tours floating on the cable car
It all started in 1908, during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the ports of Rio de Janeiro by Dom João VI. Engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos had the idea of building an “airway” between the hills of Guanabara Bay to boost tourism in Rio de Janeiro. The Sugarloaf Cable Car was the third in the world, only Switzerland and Germany already had this technique. Inaugurated in 1912/1913, it continues to receive visitors in modern gondolas with panoramic views of Urca and Sugarloaf Mountain. The sunset with a privileged view of the historic entrance to Guanabara Bay, the famous Copacabana beach and the mountain range that surrounds the city frame the end of the tour.
A curiosity; The Sugarloaf Mountain is a mountain that has no vegetation in most of its extension. It is a single block of granite rock, which has undergone changes with the action of time, pressure and temperature, and has an age greater than 600 million years.
